BEST COLLEGES FOR LOW GRE SCORES
While the GRE is important, a high score in it will guarantee you a place amongst the best, even if your GRE scores are low, there is no need to lose hope. Many colleges in the US do not place great importance on the GRE; some don't even require GRE scores, so chances of admission are high if your profile as a whole is strong.
UNIVERSITIES WHICH ARE SATISFIED WITH LOW GRE SCORES
1. University of Wyoming (298)
The University of Wyoming is ranked 156 in the 2013 edition of Best Colleges in National Universities. Started in March 1886, this University offers many programs and courses with a high acceptance rate of 95%. This University is known for its Graduate programs, specifically the Chemical Engineering Department.
M.S IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING:
- The Chemical Engineering Department offers a highly sophisticated curriculum hand in hand with outstanding laboratory facilities equipped with advanced equipment required to impart knowledge and skills to students in various areas of technology.

2. San Jose State University (303)
This university, located in the Silicon Valley of California, is one of the best places to gain experience in the software field. While competition is high, the emphasis on the GRE is quite low. GRE requirements are waived for students with an undergrad degree from an
ABET accredited degree program. Accommodating many Asian students, this University is ranked as one of the best in the world for its Engineering Graduate programs.
M.S IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING:
- Provided by the Computer Engineering Department at SJSU, this degree offers hands-on experience in fundamental Computer science and engineering and training in software development and management.
- Research is focused on areas such as Cloud Computing and Networking Software with collaborations with many industry leaders such as Sun Microsystems, IBM Corporation, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
- Financial guidance is available through Grants and Fellowships but is limited in number and hence competitive.
3. Florida International University (300)
Situated in Miami, Florida, this university is a top-league research institute offering many degree programs that are well known for their challenging curriculum. Only certain programs require GRE, and the minimum score accepted is around 300.

GRE requirements vary by department. Most programs do not have a minimum GRE requirement, but for those that do, the minimum acceptable score is around 300.

5. Florida Atlantic University (300)
Many Science and medicine programs do not require GRE scores, but Computer Science, MBA, and Data Science programs do. The minimum required score for most programs is less than 150 in each section, and this requirement can also be waived for some programs based on other factors.
6. Duquesne University (303)
Many Master's and Doctoral programs require GRE scores. The minimum score accepted is 303. The other programs do not require the GRE, but this score is important to be considered for fellowships and scholarships.
There are many other programs which may accept students with low GRE score like Texas A&M (Kingsville), UH (Clear lake), SIU.
UNIVERSITIES WHICH REQUIRE NO GRE
VIRGINIA TECH
VTech is a world-class university with a beautiful campus. Although a GRE score is not required for the following programs: Computer Science and MBA, other programs may require it. However, including a GRE score boosts the application.
UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND
- This University is located in Kingston, Rhode Island, and is classified as a top-notch research university with an acceptance rate of 86%.
- It is well known for its Graduate degree programs with high Research activity in various areas such as Biomedical signaling and processing, computational and experimentational neuroscience, etc.
- Financial guidance is another bonus point, available widely to International students through Fellowships.
IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY
- Located in Ames, Iowa, this University is highly ranked in Engineering and agricultural fields of study due to its exceptional role in Research.
- Research is concentrated on areas including Bioengineering, Software systems, and Reliable computing.

JOHNS HOPKINS
By far the best place in the world for the biological sciences, Johns Hopkins does not mandate submitting GRE scores. Submission of GRE scores is optional for students. The university bases its admission decision on multiple factors, and a good GRE score is useful to get the upper hand, but the student still has a good chance of getting accepted here if they have a strong profile otherwise.
HOWARD UNIVERSITY
No minimum GRE score is listed on the website. Although the GRE is required for admission to the school, Howard University follows a holistic approach to college admissions. GRE score is only one component of the admission requirements and is taken into account subjectively.
LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO
The GRE score is optional and not mandatory for admission to Loyola University. GRE score can be used to supplement other admission requirements but is not necessary.
